To the Floors That Built Me
Updated: Aug 7
A tribute to the communities where I learned what care looks like when
it is lived, not managed from a distance
Before I was an advisor, I was an aide. Before I had a framework, I had a floor. Each floor I worked on left something in me that no classroom, no credential, and no conference could have given me.
This is the inaugural issue of Notes from the Field, a column in which I write not as a strategist but as someone who has worked the floor, clocked long shifts, and been changed by the work in ways I am still discovering.
I am launching Cronte Care Advisory with a clear vision for where senior living needs to go. But I do not approach this work as an outsider. I come from inside these buildings. Before I offer a single insight into the future of this industry, I want to honor the places that shaped me.
Five communities. One mission: to enrich the lives of older adults in senior living.
Ebenezer Towerlight
WHERE IT BEGAN
Ebenezer gave me my first push. Long before I could articulate what senior living was, before I had the language for workforce strategy, resident experience, or aging consumer design, an Executive Director at Ebenezer looked at me and saw something I had not yet recognized in myself. That encouragement, offered early and unconditionally, opened a door to frontline work and to the endless possibilities within this field. Ebenezer Towerlight planted the seed of this work, and I have never forgotten it. For that, I am deeply grateful.
Presbyterian Homes & Services — Folkestone Gables
WHERE I WAS SHAPED AND STRETCHED
No place has done for me what Folkestone Gables has. The floor there pushed me in ways I did not always anticipate, stretched my capacity for care, and quietly deepened my faith in ways I did not see coming. I went in as an aide and came out someone who, at a cellular level, understood what it means to be fully present for another human being. Folkestone renewed something in me spiritually that I carry into every room I enter now. It is the place I measure everything else against.
Sholom
WHERE I LEARNED WHAT CULTURE TRULY MEANS
Sholom taught me that organizational belief need not be compromised to be inclusive. What I witnessed there was an institution that stood firmly in its identity while remaining flexible enough to welcome, adapt, and serve without losing its core values. That is not a small thing. Many organizations claim both conviction and inclusivity and sacrifice one for the other. Sholom showed me they can coexist. I use the word "culture" carefully now because of that experience, and that lesson lives at the heart of the advisory work I do today.
Epiphany Care Homes
WHERE I FOUND STILLNESS
Epiphany introduced me to a truth the industry often overlooks: care can be quiet. It can be intimate. It can exist in a small, warm, unhurried space and be no less profound for it. In an industry that increasingly chases scale, Epiphany reminded me that stillness is not a deficit. Sometimes it is exactly what a person needs. I hold that warmth as a standard whenever I think about what excellent care is supposed to feel like.
Spirit Care Homes
WHAT I SAW CARE IS BECOMING
Spirit Care Homes introduced me to the future. What I witnessed there—the model, the intentionality, and the way care was designed around the individual—gave me a glimpse of where this industry can go when the right people lead it. I am grateful for that vision. It sits alongside everything I learned about the present and the past, and it is part of why I believe so firmly that senior living, done right, can be extraordinary. Spirit showed me the possibility. I have been building toward it ever since.
"I did not learn senior living from the outside looking in.
I learned it from the floor, and I am grateful for every
building that let me in."
These five communities are the foundation for everything Cronte Care Advisory stands for. Not as case studies. Not as credentials. As places that gave me something real: a first push, a spiritual renewal, a lesson in culture, a gift of stillness, a vision of what is possible, and the opportunity to rebuild a dream career in a field I have come to love deeply.
With my cup overflowing and my heart full of gratitude, I forever honor the grace of God that allowed me to serve. Welcome to Cronte.
